CIGNA International Expatriate Benefits' extensive worldwide network of 54,000 direct payment-accepting providers minimizes the possibility that international assignees will incur out-of-pocket expense when seeking care. We take pride in our flexibility and success record in development of direct settlement arrangements with not only hospitals, but also individuals. Unlike some carriers that require 10 days notice, CIEB does not require prior notification for direct settlement, even with non-contracted providers.
Our flexible approach to paying providers resulted in our paying over 4,500 different international providers last year. Our rate of payment of international benefits to international providers averages 60% (on an equivalent USD-paid basis). We also provide members with the options of remote check or electronic deposit of claim payments in local currency through ePayment Plus®.
